Further Instructions

Track 1 - Chromatic Scale (unaccompanied)

  • Perform an ascending and descending chromatic scale on a neutral syllable (ex. “doo” or “la”).  Only the starting pitch may be given.
  • Suggested scales: Sopranos start on E4, Altos start on A3, Tenors start on E3, Baritones start on Bb2, Basses start on G2.  (Feel free to choose a new starting point at your discretion if these pitches go outside your student’s range)
  • Suggested tempo: Quarter note = 70, sung a cappella

Track 2 - Sing Along with Recording

  • Starting at m.73 of “Mister Hooper,” sing your part along with the provided full audio track.  Sopranos or altos may elect to sing the middle note on three part splits (see appropriate practice track for this).
  • Make sure that your voice can be heard just slightly over the other voices (considering your blend!).
  • Do your best to have correct pitches, rhythms, and match tempo/style/timbre.

Track 3 - Part Singing (with minus track)

  • Record your part singing with the appropriate minus track (ex: top sopranos will sing with the "Minus Sop1" track).  Ignore the solo line.
  • Sopranos, you may sing top or middle during three-part splits (see appropriate minus track)
  • Do your best to have correct pitches and rhythms while showing appropriate style, articulation, dynamics, and tone.
